Homemade Eggnog

Ingredients

  • 3 cups milk

  • 2 whole eggs

  • 3 egg yolks

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup cream

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup dark rum

  • Pinch of salt

  • Nutmeg

  • Ice

Equipment

  • Stove

  • Pot

  • Large bowls

  • Whisk

Steps

  1. Set the stove to medium-high heat and place a pot onto the stove.

  2. Pour 3 cups of milk into the pot and stir until milk simmers.

  3. Then remove the pot from heat and let it cool.

  4. Crack 2 whole eggs and 3 egg yolks into a large bowl.

  5. Add 1 cup of sugar to the large bowl. Whisk well to combine.

  6. Add a bit of the simmered milk to the large bowl in order to make the mixture more liquid in consistency.

  7. Pour the contents of the large bowl into the pot of simmered milk. Whisk well to combine.

  8. Prepare an ice bath and place a large bowl on top.

  9. Filter the contents of the pot using a sieve while pouring into the large bowl.

  10. Add 1 cup of cream a pinch of salt and 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract. Whisk well to combine and then let it cool.

  11. Add 1 cup of dark rum and whisk again to combine.

  12. Chill for 3 hours.

  13. Pour into glasses and sprinkle nutmeg on top.
